After the successful completion of Sri Lanka’s first ever online blogging competition, we decided to have a day out with the winners!
Saturday morning at Arcade Colombo, first came Hiran, the first place winner with a big grin on his face. We got to know he is currently an undergraduate. He had got to know about liyamu through Facebook and has decided to give it a shot at #writeoff. His winning story “රස්තියාදුකාරයා” found here was particularly appraised by Sybil Wettasinghe.
1st Place – Hiran Herath (left)
As we said goodbye to Hiran, came Yashmika, who is our second place winner. She also happens to be an undergraduate. She says that liyamu was introduced to her by one of her batchmates who requested her to write an article on it… She says that she never wrote specifically for any competition but was delighted to hear about her victory that even made her lose her way to Arcade! Yashmika’s impressive piece of poetry “හදේ-පැතුමක්” is found here.
2nd Place – Yashmika Kuruppu (Right)
Unfortunately Phusathi, our 3rd place winner couldn’t make it on the same day. We met her the following Sunday at the Race Course grounds. She is an immediate school leaver and is an ardent fan of literature. She is currently a freelance writer for a leading newspaper in the country. Her winning story “My Generation” is found here.
3rd Place – Phusathi Liyanarachchi (Right)
The three winners received cash prizes of Rs. 7,500, Rs. 5,000 and Rs. 2,500 respectively.
We invite all of you to keep on blogging as #writeoff 2 is just round the corner and what you write now will be eligible automatically!
